Aizawl: Police officials in south Mizoram’s Lawngtlai district bordering Myanmar located and destroyed poppy plantations in the jungle within Rulkual village on Wednesday and arrested two Myanmar nationals, belated police reports reaching Aizawl on Saturday said.Police officials received information about the presence of poppy cultivation on Monday, following which a search operation using a drone was launched. The operation led to the discovery of poppy cultivation in a forest near the Tuiphal river within the jurisdiction of the Rulkual village council. Police raided the cultivation area and arrested two persons, Lalzoa (48) and Aung Ling (51), who claimed to be residents of Saizawl East village in Lawngtlai district. The accused were later found to be Myanmar nationals.Police seized 38.52kg of raw opium from the cultivation area and destroyed the contraband, keeping 4.40kg as samples to be produced before the court.
