Daltonganj: A subedar of Jharkhand Armed Police (JAP)-8 died in Dagra police picket in Palamu district on Saturday after his service rifle went off accidentally. The deceased, identified as Subodh Pal (59), was due to retire in five months. JAP 8 is headquartered at Lesliganj in Palamu district.Chhaterpur sub-divisional police officer Prashant Kumar said, “Preliminary investigations suggested the rifle went off when the deceased was cleaning his room and shifting the weapon from one place to another. A bullet hit Subodh fatally in his chin.”Police said the bullet exited Subodh’s head, killing him on the spot. A resident of Untari Road police station limits in Palamu district, Subodh has four brothers in the police. His elder son is employed with Ministry of Defence. “Further investigation is underway to ascertain the sequence of events,” a police officer said.
