Dumka: Four persons were arrested by the Jamtara district cyber police cell from Ringochingo village and near Amdiha village under the Karmatanr police station limits, officials said on Thursday.The arrested were identified as Mohammad Abutalib Ansari (41) and Samim Ansari (28) of Upar-Bhithra, Baharuddin Ansari (23) of Heth-Bhithra, besides Sunil Kumar Mandal (24) of Ringochingo.DSP (Cyber) Amit Ravidas said, “The accused allegedly targeted LPG consumers by posing as gas agency representatives and persuading them to download screen-sharing applications on their mobile phones on the pretext of updating gas connections. Once access was gained, they allegedly siphoned off money through e-wallets.”Raids were conducted at Mandal’s residence in Ringochingo and an under-construction house at Purab Dangal near Amdiha, leading to the arrests. A total of eight mobile phones and eight SIM cards were seized from the possession of the accused, police added.“During interrogation, the accused allegedly confessed to using multiple fraud techniques. Besides targeting LPG consumers, they allegedly impersonated bank officials and tricked victims into sharing ATM card details, CVV numbers, and OTPs before transferring money through e-wallets to accounts under their control,” DSP (Cyber) Ravidas further said.The miscreants’ alleged operations extended across several states. Investigators are questioning the accused to establish links with other cyber fraud cases and identify additional members of the network, police said.
