Ranchi: Discarded tyres have been given a new use as colourful plant pots along the Harmu River under the ‘Kabaad Se Jugaad’ theme of the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ campaign by the Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC).The initiative, being carried out from Sept 17 to Oct 17 under the Union ministry of housing and urban affairs (MoHUA), aims to promote waste reuse while improving public spaces. The old tyres have been painted and repurposed as planters along the riverfront, adding greenery and colour to the area. RMC has also undertaken beautification work at Zakir Hussain Park as part of the campaign.Officials said the initiative seeks to demonstrate how discarded material can be turned into useful resources instead of being sent directly for disposal. The corporation is also promoting the reuse of materials such as plastic, metal and wood as part of its scrap-reuse efforts across the city.“Discarded items such as old tyres can be creatively reused instead of becoming waste. Through Kabaad Se Jugaad, we want people to see waste as a resource and adopt similar practices in their homes and neighbourhoods,” said Shivam Singh, a scrap artist. The Swachhata Hi Seva campaign, running till Oct 17, focuses on community participation and cleanliness-related activities, with RMC using the period to promote both sanitation and creative reuse of waste.
