Jaisalmer: A high-tech digital siren system was tested in Jaisalmer city Friday as part of post-Operation Sindoor measures to strengthen security near the India-Pakistan border. The test began at 11 am, lasted about five minutes as the sound of sirens echoed across the city. The administration has installed digital siren systems at 11 key points in the city as part of security and disaster management measures. They are based on GSM technology, can be operated through a special mobile app, and can be activated from anywhere via the control room through a SIM card. Every siren remains online at all times, and in an emergency, all 11 sirens across the city can be activated simultaneously with just one click.Nagar Parishad commissioner Lajpal Singh Sodha said such testing ensured the system worked properly when needed and information reaches people on time. He said the Electric Wing of the Nagar Parishad made the system completely high-tech and that the administration selected busy and prominent points so the siren sound could be heard throughout the city and the public could be immediately alerted in case of emergency. “The project was developed with state-of-the-art technology and costs Rs 14.50 lakh.”SP Abhishek Shivhare said the main objective of the testing was to alert citizens in the shortest possible time in case of fire, natural disaster or any emergency. “This was a routine technical test as part of preparations for dealing with emergency situations in the future, it was only a routine technical drill and citizens need not panic,” he said.Residents reported hearing the sirens across the city, sparking discussions on social media. Citizens appreciated the step and viewed it as a modern security system.Officials described the high-tech system as part of Operation Sindoor‘s security strategy, under which a rapid alert system between citizens and security forces in areas adjacent to the border was made effective.
