Jaipur: Rajasthan police Tuesday busted an interstate gang allegedly connected with a recent high-value burglary in Jaipur’s C-Scheme area and arrested two of its members from New Delhi and Uttar Pradesh .Jaipur deputy commissioner of police (South) Rajarshi Raj Varma said cash and jewellery worth around Rs 25 lakh were recovered from the two accused. The case pertains to a Jan 28 burglary in the city’s Bhagirath Colony, when the gang broke into an empty house and made off with cash and jewellery worth several lakhs. An FIR was subsequently registered at the Vidhayakpuri police station and a special team was formed to identify and track down the perpetrators.Varma said the investigation into the case involved examining feed from nearly 500 CCTV cameras along the suspects’ escape route following the Bhagirath Colony break-in. Based on information gleaned from the footage and additional inputs from the Cyber Cell of Jaipur police, separate teams were dispatched to New Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.Following coordinated technical and ground surveillance, raids were conducted in the Mayur Vihar area of New Delhi and in Bijnor district of Uttar Pradesh, leading to the arrest of the two accused.Varma identified them as Shan Mohammad alias Shanu (25), a resident of Trilokpuri in New Delhi, and Shakeel Ahmad, a resident of Chandpur in Bijnor district. Police said Shan Mohammad is a notorious interstate criminal with 35 previous cases registered against him on charges of theft, burglary, assault, robbery and offences under the Arms Act. He was twice convicted by courts in different cases.Varma said interrogation of the two accused has shed light on the gang’s modus operandi. Members used to surveil locked or vacant houses, broke into them when occupants were away, stole vehicle number plates and divided the loot among themselves to fund lavish lifestyles. “We have not ruled out the possibility of other accomplices being involved in the gang, and efforts are underway to identify them and trace their whereabouts,” Varma said.
