Ahmedabad: On Wednesday night, 23-year-old Uwais Pathan called the father of his former fiancée and, in a voice that was eerily calm, passed on chilling information: “I killed your daughter.” Only 2 days earlier, the 17-year-old girl’s family called off her engagement with the “abusive and doubting” accused. In the phone call, Pathan allegedly went on to share the location where he committed the crime: Kankaria Gate No. 6. A calm and composed Pathan, a resident of Saiyedwadi in Vatva, then walked into a police station and turned himself in. Maninagar police said he was arrested and that the girl’s father filed a murder complaint against him on Thursday.N K Vyas, assistant commissioner of police, J Division, said calling off the engagement was the trigger, and that Pathan warned the girl’s family of “consequences”.According to the complaint, the girl was engaged to Uwais for around 6 months, and the 2 met frequently. The 17-year-old later told her family she no longer wanted the relationship, saying that Pathan suspected her, was abusive, and used foul language. On Monday, the day the engagement was called off, Pathan allegedly created a scene at the victim’s home. The father told police that after Pathan’s family was informed of the decision, the girl started receiving threats over the phone, saying that Pathan “would not let her live”. Despite attempts, the relationship remained strained, and the girl was asked not to speak with him on the phone. The father alleged the accused continued to call and threaten her.The father said he was at work at 10.24 pm on Wednesday when he received the chilling call. He called home, only to be told that Pathan visited around 9.30 pm and persuaded the minor to come out with him “to settle the matter”. The family rushed to the spot and found her body, blood-soaked from a head injury, the complaint states.
