Gurgaon: Unabated garbage dumping in vacant plots and along roads has been ailing the residents of Sector 23A for months. With no regular clearance and sanitation measures, they said living conditions have worsened, especially during rains.The sector is also an access point that leads to a village and adjoining colonies in the vicinity. With inadequate door-to-door waste collection in these densely populated areas around the sector, and poor enforcement against violators, garbage remains uncleared for days, residents said.“Since there is no effective waste collection and no strict action against violators, people find it easy to dump garbage in our vacant plots. Unless the civic body cracks down on offenders through regular challans and monitoring, this cycle of illegal dumping will continue,” said Bhawani Shankar Tripathy, general secretary, Sector 23A Residents Development Welfare Association (RDWA).Despite repeated complaints and requests to deploy enforcement teams for at least a week to identify and penalise those dumping waste illegally, MCG has taken no action. Residents believe sustained enforcement, rather than one-time cleaning drives, is needed to solve the problem.Apart from garbage dumping, residents also raised concerns over reduced sanitation manpower, resulting in infrequent road sweeping and accumulation of dust and litter. While complaints made through social media are sometimes attended to, residents claimed there is no regular system for lifting garbage daily.“The sanitation staff responds occasionally when complaints are made repeatedly, but there is no consistent mechanism for daily waste lifting. During the monsoon, garbage lying for even two or three days starts rotting. Cattle and stray dogs scatter the waste, making the roads filthy and increasingly dangerous to health,” said Rohit Yadav, RWA president.Meanwhile, joint commissioner of MCG, Jaiveer Yadav, could not be reached for comment.
