Rajkot: A planned court marriage between an interfaith couple took a violent turn in Bhavnagar on Monday evening when the woman’s family allegedly ambushed the duo outside the sub-registrar office, assaulting the man and forcefully taking her away.Sachin (26), a rickshaw driver from Umrala village, filed a complaint at the Nilambag police station, alleging that he was attacked and robbed by the woman’s brothers and two unknown men.According to the complaint, Sachin (26) and Reshma (30), who is from Khopala village in Botad district, met two years ago and developed a romantic relationship. Despite their differing faiths, they decided to get married. They left home together on Dec 21, 2025, and travelled to Surat, Diu, and Goa while planning their legal union.The couple was scheduled to finalise their court marriage paperwork at the sub-registrar office on Monday.As they arrived at the office around 5pm, Reshma’s two brothers, Sohil and Bholu, arrived in a car along with two other men. Sachin alleged that the two men restrained him on the ground while Bholu assaulted him. One of the men then threatened him with a knife, warning that they would kill him if he resisted. During the chaos, Sohil robbed Rs 1,800 in cash and some documents from Sachin’s pocket. Reshma was then forced into the car, and the group fled the scene.Sachin contacted his family and filed a formal complaint.A complaint is filed under relevant BNS sections.
