Kanpur: A 26-year-old Muslim man and a 14-year-old Hindu girl allegedly consumed a poisonous substance after their families opposed their relationship in the Shamsabad police station area of Farrukhabad late Thursday.The two were admitted to a community health centre in Kayamganj around 3 am on Friday and shifted to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in Farrukhabad after their condition worsened.Police said the man and the minor had gone to an orchard outside their village after their families opposed the relationship and consumed poison.The girl told police that she had lived with her maternal grandparents since childhood. She alleged that her maternal uncle and grandfather beat her after learning about the relationship and that her uncle had arranged her marriage elsewhere. She said this prompted her action.Activists of some Hindu organisations reached hospital after learning about the incident and created a ruckus. Police personnel pacified them.CO Rajesh Kumar Dwivedi said the matter involved two communities and that a case would be registered if a complaint was received. CO Kayamganj Ajay Verma said the case prima facie appeared linked to a relationship.
