Chennai: The Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology of Indonesia has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the IIT Madras Global Research Foundation (IITM Global) to strengthen bilateral cooperation in higher education, research, innovation, deep technology, entrepreneurship and talent development.The agreement was signed during the visit of Indonesia’s Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology, Prof Brian Yuliarto, to IIT Madras. The partnership aims to promote collaborative research, accelerate deep-tech commercialisation and strengthen innovation ecosystems in both countries.
According to IIT Madras, the collaboration will leverage the institute’s research and innovation capabilities to support Indonesia’s higher education and technology ecosystem while advancing the India-Indonesia strategic partnership.
The MoU was signed by Prof Raghunathan Rengaswamy, Director, IIT Madras Global Research Foundation, Madhav Narayan, CEO and Director, IIT Madras Global Research Foundation, and Dr Mohammad Fauzan Adziman, Director General of Research and Development, Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology, Indonesia.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Brian Yuliarto said the partnership would provide universities across Indonesia with opportunities to undertake joint research, talent development, technology commercialisation and innovation programmes. He said the collaboration aims to translate research into startups and globally competitive industries while strengthening Indonesia’s innovation ecosystem.
Prof V Kamakoti, Chairman of IIT Madras Global Research Foundation and Director of IIT Madras, said the partnership reflects the institute’s growing global engagement in research and innovation. He said the collaboration would help develop research, entrepreneurship and innovation ecosystems that contribute to sustainable economic development in both countries.
According to IIT Madras, the partnership follows recent bilateral discussions between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, during which both countries agreed to expand cooperation in higher education, science, technology, innovation and entrepreneurship.
