Chikkamagaluru: A 52-year-old woman died after an Indian gaur attacked her while she was working on her farm with her husband in Kalasa, Chikkamagaluru, on Tuesday.The deceased is Sheela. She suffered multiple injuries in the attack. Her husband carried her on his shoulder for nearly a kilometre, but the efforts went in vain, authorities said, adding she died while being shifted to hospital in Kalasa.Koppa DCF Shivashankar said the couple was working on their farm. He said the family was poor and the department would provide all the available benefits for the dependants of the victim.“As per the policy, Rs 20 lakh compensation will be given to the family,” he said.The DCF also said that as there was no proper road approach and no mobile network, the husband had to carry her for nearly a kilometre, but unfortunately the victim died, he said.The couple has two unmarried daughters.The incident has created fear among the villagers. They said the department must ensure safety by driving away the gaurs. “The govt issues compensation, but it doesn’t match the loss of life. We need permanent solution for the menace existing since decades,” the villagers said.
