Patiala: Punjab local government minister Ravjot Singh conducted a surprise sanitation inspection in Patiala early this morning, expressing serious concerns over unattended garbage and warning officials of strict action if immediate cleanliness measures were not implemented.The minister visited several secondary garbage collection points across the city, including Sanjay Colony, Sabzi Mandi Rehri Market, Bhim Colony, Old Bus Stand, Railway Station, Tafajalpura, Factory Area, Sirhind Road, Ghuman Nagar, Deep Nagar, Anand Nagar, and Bhadson Road.Accompanied by Baltej Pannu, mayor Kundan Gogia, PPCB chairperson Reena Gupta, deputy commissioner Preeti Yadav, commissioner Paramvir Singh, and senior deputy mayor Harinder Kohli, Ravjot Singh gathered on-the-spot feedback from residents. He expressed dissatisfaction with municipal officials regarding garbage accumulation.“Patiala is a historic city, but the current state of sanitation is disappointing,” said Ravjot Singh said. He directed the municipal corporation to ensure daily garbage lifting, especially during the monsoon, to prevent the spread of diseases. He also assured residents that surprise inspections would continue.He appealed to citizens to cooperate by segregating wet and dry waste and avoiding littering, emphasising that public participation is essential in maintaining cleanliness. Later, he held a review meeting with local officials and councillors at the municipal corporation office to discuss improvements in sanitation, water supply, street lighting, and sewage systems. He also interacted with sanitation workers, directed the provision of proper uniforms, and reiterated the govt’s commitment to their welfare.
