KURUKSHETRA: A local court in Kurukshetra has sentenced a man to seven years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 10,000 for possession of narcotic substances. The judgment was delivered by the Additional District and Sessions Judge of the Special NDPS Court on Wednesday.The convicted individual, Kuldeep, a resident of Dhanori village in Ambala district, was found guilty under Section 15 (b) of the NDPS Act. If he fails to pay the fine, he will have to serve an additional one month in jail.District Public Prosecutor Mainpal shared details of the case, stating that on November 14, 2019, a Crime Investigation Agency-II team of the Kurukshetra police, led by sub-inspector Sharanjit Singh and head constable Lakhan Singh, was stationed near New Shere Punjab Neelkanth Dhaba in Shahabad as part of a crime surveillance operation. Acting on a tip-off, the police set up a checkpoint near the dhaba and apprehended Kuldeep.Upon searching the accused in the presence of a gazetted officer, the police recovered 7 kilograms of poppy husk, a banned substance under the NDPS Act. Kuldeep was arrested on the spot and a case was registered at Shahabad Police Station under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act. The chargesheet was later submitted in court.After a thorough trial and examination of evidence and witnesses, the court found Kuldeep guilty and pronounced the sentence on July 23, 2025.
