Salem: Over 200 farmers and residents, along with members of the Water Resources Protection Movement, submitted a petition at the Vennangkodi Muniyappan Temple in Salem on Sunday, in a symbolic protest against the proposed dyeing plant in Jagir Ammapalayam. The protest is part of an ongoing agitation over the past five months, against the construction of dyeing units in the pretext of setting up a textile park. Protesters alleged that the district administration and the state government had so far failed to respond to their demands. Farmers said the administration had not even invited them for talks despite continued protests. As part of the demonstration, participants carried flowers, fruits, puja materials and the petition in a procession to the temple, where they symbolically submitted it to the deity Muniyappan.
