Mumbai: The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai, Thane, and Palghar for July 2, indicating heavy rainfall at isolated places. Meanwhile, an orange alert has been issued for Raigad for the same date, indicating heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places.In its district forecast from June 30 to July 3, the IMD indicated that rains would continue throughout these days. In the 24 hours ending at 8:30 am on June 29, the IMD Colaba and Santacruz observatories recorded 5.8 mm and 6.8 mm of rain, respectively. The total rainfall recorded by the IMD Colaba and Santacruz observatories was 591.4 mm and 511.2 mm, respectively. This was above normal. For the IMD Colaba observatory, it was 74.5 mm above normal, and for the Santacruz observatory, it was 1.2 mm above normal.IMD officials pointed out that the Southwest Monsoon this year covered the entire country on June 29, 2025, against the normal date of July 8, which is nine days earlier than usual. Meanwhile, strong surface winds were reported in several parts of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) over the weekend. Santacruz recorded wind speeds of 50 kmph, while Palghar saw gusts up to 46 kmph, the IMD said.
