Agartala: Tripura chief minister Manik Saha expressed concern over poor maintenance of several road projects by National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDCL) in a recent review meeting while pressing for quality work in a time-bound manner.NHIDCL has been accused of poor quality construction of National Highways in Tripura through local vendors at a low cost. As a result, all the roads they built were damaged badly within a year or two during the monsoon. They were also accused of not paying compensation to the people who had given land for road construction. NHIDCL officials have also been charged for cut down hundreds of century old trees in connivance with the corrupt officers of the state forest department. In the meeting, CM directed to complete all pending repair works within Sept, and said, “We must ensure quality and timely execution to prevent inconvenience to the public.” However, NHIDCL authorities assured that an expert team from the Central Road Research Institute has been engaged to assess the badly damaged portion of the Khowai-Manikbhandar section of NH-108B. Based on CRRI’s report, necessary corrective measures will be taken.
