Residents have written to the Noida Authority to have the encroachment removed

Noida: Residents of Sector 78 have complained about an unauthorised borewell pump allegedly being used for commercial purposes opposite Sector 101 metro station. The matter has been formally raised with the Noida Authority CEO, with residents seeking immediate action. The complaint said several unauthorised nurseries have come up in the area, illegally occupying public land and extracting groundwater for commercial use.Residents said the situation not only violates regulations but also jeopardises the water supply for local housing societies, raising fears of a worsening water crisis as summer temperatures rise.

Residents said the encroachment jeopardises the water supply to local housing societies

Ranjan Samantaray, a resident of Antriksh Golf View 2 in Sector 78, said that the encroachment is impacting more than 20,000 residents in the region. “These private nurseries are tapping into groundwater sources for commercial use, thereby compromising the water supply designated for local housing societies,” he said.Another resident, Brijesh Sharma echoed the sentiments, highlighting the increasing demand for water during the summer months. “Many residential societies are already facing severe shortages. The diversion of water resources through unauthorised activities not only complicates an already critical situation but also significantly inconveniences residents who rely on the public distribution system,” Sharma added. In the letter to the Authority, residents outlined recommendations for action to be taken, including inspections of the borewell pump house, the dismantling of illegal encroachments, and stringent measures against those profiting from the misuse of water resources.Samantaray said that it is crucial to ensure fair and adequate access to water for all residential societies in the vicinity. “As the summer heat continues, effective intervention before the water crisis deepens is the need of the hour. We hope that the water department of Noida Authority will take decisive action to rectify the situation, uphold public resource integrity, and guarantee equitable distribution of water,” he added.A response from the Authority is awaited.
