Shimla: Intensifying action against illegal fishing during the annual closed season in Himachal Pradesh, the fisheries department has registered 220 cases and recovered over Rs 2.28 lakh in fines between June 16 and July 9.The director and warden of fisheries, Vivek Chandel, said the ban on fishing, imposed from June 16 to August 15 to protect fish breeding and conserve resources, was being strictly enforced through special camps, flying squads, and regular patrols.Surveillance teams have been deployed across major reservoirs, including Gobind Sagar, Pong, Chamera, Kol Dam, and Ranjit Sagar, as well as rivers and streams across the state.The department is monitoring water bodies through boats, vehicles, and foot patrols. Chandel urged fishermen and citizens to avoid illegal fishing during the restricted period and support efforts to protect aquatic resources.
