New Delhi: National Green Tribunal has asked a tree officer concerned to take expeditious action in a matter related to the “illegal” felling of trees in Samalka village in southwest Delhi. A local claimed that although he filed a complaint with the officer in Aug last year, no action was taken. Dharmendar Sharma had filed a plea in the tribunal and claimed that three mature fruit-bearing trees of jamun, mulberry and peepal were illegally felled.“Once the complaint is made to the tree officer, he is required to take action in accordance with the procedure prescribed in the Delhi Preservation of Trees Act, 1994,” said the bench headed by Justice Prakash Shrivastava in an order dated Feb 12.
