CHENNAI: The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) will conduct the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027 from February 6 to 21. The exam will be conducted on February 6, 7, 13, 14, 20, and 21 in forenoon and afternoon sessions.The GATE is India’s premier national-level examinations for higher education and recruitment in engineering and related disciplines. The online application portal is expected to open in the middle of August 2026.“GATE 2027 will be conducted as a Computer-Based Test (CBT) and will feature 30 test papers. The syllabus has been revised after five years to align with evolving academic and industry requirements,” IIT Madras said in a release.This year, GATE exam will have a new paper on robotics and automation. Further, the textile engineering and fibre science paper has been converted into a sectional paper under engineering sciences, it added.Conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and the IITs on behalf of the National Coordination Board (NCB)-GATE, Union ministry of education, the examination assesses candidates’ understanding of undergraduate-level subjects in engineering, technology, science, architecture, commerce, arts and humanities. GATE scores are also widely accepted by educational institutions for postgraduate admissions and by several Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) and other organisations for recruitment.
