Bhubaneswar: IIT Bhubaneswar and IIT (Indian School of Mines) Dhanbad have entered into an MoU to step up research collaboration and academic exchanges, with semiconductor technology and basic sciences identified as initial areas of focus.The MoU was signed by IIT Bhubaneswar director Prof Shreepad Karmalkar and his IIT (ISM) Dhanbad counterpart Prof Sukumar Mishra on Wednesday.They said the partnership will facilitate joint research programmes and projects, reciprocal supervision of doctoral students and efforts to secure research funding from external agencies. The two institutes will initially explore collaborative research opportunities in semiconductors.As part of the academic collaboration, faculty members will have opportunities for interaction and exchange through visiting and adjunct faculty positions. Student exchanges for teaching-learning sessions and seminars will also be explored.Karmalkar said the collaboration would create greater opportunities for joint research, academic exchange and doctoral engagement by bringing together the complementary strengths of the two institutions. Mishra said the MoU marked the beginning of deeper collaboration in research and academia, with the two institutes looking to leverage their expertise to contribute to science and society.Senior officials from IIT Bhubaneswar, including Dean-PG & Research Programs Prof Subhransu R Samantaray, Dean-Sponsored Research & Industrial Consultancy Prof Vijay Shankar Pasupureddi, were present at the signing ceremony.
