NEW DELHI: Trinamool Congress (TMC) president and former West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee is likely to visit the CJP protest at Jantar Mantar on Monday to extend her support to students protesting over the alleged NEET paper leak and other issues, according to news agency PTI.Banerjee will visit the protest site to express solidarity with the students, news agency PTI reported.Earlier this week, Banerjee criticised the Centre over the police action during the CJP’s march to Parliament on July 20. She alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi “turned his car around and drove away” when protesters reached near the Parliament complex.Speaking at the Trinamool Congress’ annual July 21 Martyrs’ Day rally in Kolkata, Banerjee had said she was ready to join the protest in Delhi if needed.“If needed, I will visit Delhi and join the CJP protest,” Mamata Banerjee said.Referring to the clashes during the July 20 march, Banerjee accused the BJP-led government of crossing the limits of authoritarianism.The Trinamool Congress was among the first opposition parties to support the CJP after its formation. Party MPs Kirti Azad and Mahua Moitra had extended support to the group online.While Moitra and TMC Rajya Sabha MP Saket Gokhale have visited the Jantar Mantar protest site, another party MP, Sagarika Ghose, was part of a delegation that met activist Sonam Wangchuk and appealed to him to end his hunger strike.Gokhale has also started an initiative inviting students and protesters to submit photographs, videos and other evidence related to the July 20 police action. He said the material would be used to identify police personnel involved and pursue legal action against them.
