NEW DELHI: The authorities on Friday dismissed claims made by a man in a viral video that he had resigned as a Delhi Police constable in support of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest at Jantar Mantar.In a post on X, the Directorate General of Home Guards identified the man, who posts Instagram reels under the name Ravi Lovey, as Ravi Kumar.“He is not a Delhi Police constable and has no association with the Delhi Police,” the directorate said.In the viral video, Ravi Kumar claimed he was serving as a Delhi Police jawan in a good position and had gone on medical leave after learning about the CJP protest.“The day I got to know that the protest would take place, I went on medical leave. I got a call again that my leave was finished. I want to extend my medical leave. The Delhi Police denied extending my medical leave,” he can be heard saying.He further alleged that the police force “pressurised him” to return to duty, following which he resigned.“Quarter nahi chahiye, sarkari gadi nahi chahiye, sarkari salary nahi chahiye” (I don’t want a quarter, government vehicle or government’s salary),” he said.The Directorate General of Home Guards clarified that Ravi Kumar was not a member of the Delhi Police but a volunteer with the Delhi Home Guards, which is a separate organisation under the Delhi government.It said Ravi Kumar had been discharged from the Delhi Home Guards with immediate effect over alleged misconduct.The directorate also stated that the views expressed by Ravi Kumar were personal and did not represent the Delhi Home Guards, the Delhi Police or any government agency.The CJP-led protest began on June 20 at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. The group is demanding accountability over alleged irregularities in competitive examinations, reforms in the education system and the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
