Ahmedabad: The Indian Coast Guard on Thursday deployed ICGS Shaurya at Porbandar to strengthen coastal surveillance along Gujarat. Officials said the vessel will improve monitoring and response in the North Arabian Sea.The offshore patrol vessel, built by Goa Shipyard Ltd, is 105 metres long and 13.6 metres wide, with a displacement of about 2,300 tonnes. It has a top speed of 23 knots, endurance of up to 20 days and an operational range of around 6,000 nautical miles.The ship is equipped with navigation, communication and surveillance systems, and an integrated platform management system. It is fitted with a CRN-91 main gun and can operate Advanced Light Helicopters. It can also deploy high-speed interceptor boats.Officials said the vessel will be used for maritime surveillance, search and rescue, anti-smuggling operations and law enforcement patrols. It will also assist in marine protection activities.Officials said the deployment will strengthen monitoring along the Gujarat coast and support fishing activities in the region.
