Shimla: To promote environmental conservation and sustainable waste management, the Himachal Pradesh Horticultural Produce Marketing and Processing Corporation (HPMC) has introduced a standard operating procedure (SOP) for the buyback and recycling of used glass bottles. The programme is designed to encourage consumers, retailers and distributors to return empty HPMC bottles through a structured collection and incentive-based system. Under the scheme, consumers will receive Re 1 for every 200 ml bottle and Rs 2 for every 600 ml bottle returned to authorised retailers.Retailers and distributors will also earn incentives of up to Rs 4 per bottle, depending on their role in the collection process, making the initiative beneficial for every stakeholder.According to the SOP, empty bottles will be collected through retailers, distributors and HPMC offices before being transported to the corporation’s fruit processing plant at Jarol for segregation and recycling. A dedicated reverse logistics network has been established to ensure smooth collection and transportation. The HPMC has urged consumers and trade partners to actively support the initiative, which is expected to reduce glass waste, strengthen recycling practices and contribute to a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable Himachal Pradesh.MSID:: 132262394 413 |
