Amravati: Amid controversy surrounding the capture and subsequent death of a tigress behind the killing of four citizens in the past few days, the autopsy conducted on Tuesday pointed to cardio-respiratory failure (cardiac and respiratory arrest) as the prima facie cause of the maneater’s death.Samples of the tigress’ organs have been sent to the forensic laboratory to ascertain the exact and accurate cause of death, said deputy conservator of forests (DCF), Amravati territorial division, Arjuna KR.A special team of the forest department tranquilised and captured the tigress in the Shirajgaon Kasba area on Monday afternoon. Forest officials said the entire operation was carried out as per the guidelines of the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA).As per the SOP, after tranquilising the tigress, further medical treatment was immediately started by a team of veterinary experts. However, the tigress did not respond adequately to the treatment and died on Monday evening.On Tuesday, a team of veterinary officers conducted the autopsy of the dead tigress as per NTCA protocol. According to the autopsy report, prima facie the cause of death was ‘cardio-respiratory failure’.The forest department clarified that samples of the tigress’s organs have been sent to the forensic laboratory for histopathology and toxicology tests to ascertain the exact cause of death. The root cause of the tigress’s death will be clear only after the final report is received, said the DCF.The tigress had killed two persons in a span of 24 hours in Sonori and Shirajgaon Kasba in Chandur Bazar taluka. Following this, there was intense anger and an atmosphere of fear in the area.
