Jaipur: A house in Shikariyon Ki Mori in Walled City’s Ramganj area was completely demolished by Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) Monday, a day after a wall of the house collapsed. However, residents are asking why the civic body has yet not identified the underlying reason behind cracks appearing in several houses and the road cave-in in the area.The affected houses are around 10 to 20 years old. Residents said there is an unused well near the houses that is continuously filling with water. They suspect sewage may be collecting into the well, causing the soil beneath the houses to weaken, potentially affecting their foundations.Former councillor Mohammad Zakariya said, “Civic body team demolished the house, but the main cause is not known. If a crack appears anywhere, will the solution always be to demolish the house?.”Former chief town planner HS Sancheti said, “Continuous leakage from a drain or pipe can gradually weaken the foundation. The building’s age, quality of foundation, water seepage around the structure and quality of construction material are important factors. The term ‘mori’ is often associated with a drain or water channel, so an old drainage route in the area should also be checked.”Former additional chief town planner Chandra Shekhar Parashar said, “Jaipur has sandy soil. Road subsidence and damage to houses of this nature can be linked to underground seepage. ”Kishanpol Zone DC Pawan Meena said, “Preliminary findings point to unauthorised construction and long-unaddressed water seepage as key factors behind the road cave-in and subsequent cracks. Some residents have continued living in structures flagged as unsafe, often citing the cost of repair or relocation.”
