Hyderabad: A 40-year-old home guard, who also worked part-time as a bike taxi rider, and his 20-year-old pillion passenger were killed after their two-wheeler was hit by a water tanker near Jalagam Vengal Rao Park in Banjara Hills on Monday morning.The victims were identified as Syed Hussain, a home guard attached to the Santoshnagar traffic unit and father of three, and Akshita (20) from Vizianagaram. Police said Hussain was operating his bike taxi during off-duty hours.Around 10.30 am, Hussain was travelling from Taj Krishna towards Nagarjuna Circle when a water tanker rammed the bike from behind at a left curve on Road No. 1.“The tanker was being driven rashly. The bike struck the middle portion of the vehicle, and both victims fell onto the road and were run over,” said Banjara Hills inspector M Suhasan. Locals shifted them to Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS), where doctors declared them brought dead.The tanker driver abandoned the vehicle and fled. Police later seized the tanker and registered a case under Section 106(1) (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The driver was subsequently taken into custody.The bodies were handed over to family members after postmortem.
