Udupi: Udupi-Chikkamagalur MP Kota Shrinivas Poojary said complaints had been received about farmers facing difficulties while transporting soil from their lands for agricultural activities. He said the issue must be resolved so that farmers do not encounter problems.He was presiding over a meeting at the deputy commissioner’s office Monday to discuss hurdles in soil transport for agricultural purposes in the district.“For many years, farmers in the district transported soil from their private lands for use in other fields for agricultural activities. However, they are not using it for any other purposes. Necessary steps as per law should be taken to ensure that they do not face any difficulties,” the MP said.Karkala MLA V Sunil Kumar said some complaints against farmers transporting soil to their agricultural lands were made for personal gain and “need not be taken seriously”.Kundapur MLA Kiran Kumar Kodgi said two recent accidents involving soil transport trucks in the Kota area led to a spurt in complaints. “There were no such complaints in the past year before these accidents. It is appropriate to ensure that farmers do not face any difficulties,” he said.Deputy commissioner Swaroopa TK, MLAs Yashpal Suvarna, Gurme Suresh Shetty, Gururaj Shetty Gantihole, additional DC Abid Gadyal, additional SP Sudhakar Nayak, senior geologist Vindhya NM and others attended the meeting.
