Kanpur: A 31-year-old home guard died after an iron rod accidentally pierced his chest while he was chasing away stray cattle from his maize field in Madhai Nivada village under Shivrajpur police station limits in Kanpur on Tuesday morning.The deceased was identified as Bhanu Pratap Rajput, a resident of Madhai Nivada village. His family said stray cattle had been damaging their standing maize crop for the past two days.According to the family, Bhanu went to the fields on Tuesday morning carrying an iron rod to drive away the cattle. While running through the field, he lost his balance and fell, causing the iron rod he was holding to pierce his chest.He was rushed to a private hospital, where he was declared dead.SHO Amit Singh said Bhanu was the family’s sole breadwinner and is survived by wife and three children.
