Kanpur: Cyber fraudsters swindled a builder of Rs 7.16 lakh in Kanpur by posing as an employee of the clinic of Padma Shri awardee neurologist Dr Sunil Pradhan and offering to facilitate an online appointment, police said on Tuesday.According to police, the victim, Abidul Arfeen, a resident of Dalelpurwa, lodged a complaint at Anwarganj police station on Monday.As per the complaint, on June 27, Arfeen searched online for Dr Pradhan’s contact number to schedule an appointment. When he called the number listed on the doctor’s official website, he was connected to a person who claimed to be an employee of the doctor’s clinic.The caller allegedly asked him to download an APK file to facilitate the online appointment. After downloading the file, Arfeen’s phone froze briefly and then restarted. Soon after, he received a notification that about Rs 7.16 lakh had been withdrawn from his bank account and credit card.After realising he had been defrauded, Arfeen lodged a complaint on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP) and informed Anwarganj police.The station in charge of Anwarganj police station said a case had been registered based on the complaint and efforts were underway to trace the suspects.
