Celebrated Bhojpuri artist Bharat Sharma Vyas has voiced his strong disapproval of the rising trend of suggestive Holi songs, claiming they pose a significant threat to both the Bhojpuri language and societal values.

Buxar: Renowned Bhojpuri singer Bharat Sharma Vyas on Monday strongly criticised the growing trend of double-meaning Holi songs in the Bhojpuri music industry. He said vulgar songs have caused serious harm to the Bhojpuri language and society.Addressing a gathering in Dumraon, he said: “Aslil Bhojpuri ganon ne Bhojpuri bhasha aur samaj ka bahut nuksan kiya hai (vulgar Bhojpuri songs have damaged the language and socieity).” He emphasised that Bhojpuri is a respected and sweet language and should not be associated with obscenity. According to him, such songs are damaging the rich culture and traditions of the Bhojpuri region.He appealed to society and the govt to boycott vulgar songs and take strict steps to stop the spread of obscene content in the name of entertainment.The singer was speaking at a programme organised by J P Memorial Charitable Trust in Dumraon.On this occasion, Pradeep Kumar Jaiswal, trustee and president of Dumraon Chamber of Commerce and Industries, honoured Vyas. The singer later presented several Holi songs and enthralled the audience.Vyas said artists have a responsibility towards society and should promote clean and meaningful music. He urged young singers to respect Bhojpuri culture and avoid seeking cheap popularity.He added that Holi is a festival of joy and harmony, and its songs should spread happiness and love, not vulgarity.
