Nagpur: Security agencies swung into action after a bomb threat at Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport on Tuesday morning. The threat came via an email that claimed that an IED (improvised explosive device) was planted in a packet resembling a cigarette pack. However, police said no explosives were found at the airport after an extensive search for nearly four hours. Sources in police said the email was first received at around 6.30am by Airports Authority of India (AAI) which forwarded it to Nagpur airport officials. A senior official at the airport, however, said the SOS was received at 10am and emergency response teams were swiftly mobilised.Sonegaon police station, along with the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS), CISF and a dog squad conducted a thorough search operation. “We received an alert from the airport around 10am. It was taken seriously, and all necessary units responded swiftly. However, no explosives were found at the airport,” said police inspector Nitin Magar from Sonegaon police station, adding that a case was registered under Section 351 (4) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita following a complaint filed by airport authorities.Even last year, Nagpur airport had received four bomb threats in a span of just three months. The first three on April 29, June 18, and June 24, were part of a series of threats sent to multiple airports across the country. The fourth email on June 25 was specifically addressed to the senior director of Nagpur airport. Sources emphasised that the bomb threat received on Tuesday via email was specifically for the Nagpur airport. Police have launched an investigation to trace the origin of the message and identify the sender, said sources adding that while the threat caused some concern, flight operations mostly remained unaffected. A senior official said that there were no major flight delays or disruptions.
