Kanpur: Panic gripped the Etawah head post office on Wednesday after the authorities received a threat email claiming that the building would be blown up using cyanide gas bombs. However, after an extensive search, the threat was declared a hoax.According to officials, an anonymous email sent to headquarters in Lucknow claimed that 19 bombs had been planted on the post office premises and would explode at 2.10 pm. The message specifically mentioned the washroom and passport Seva Kendra as locations, where the explosives were allegedly placed. The information triggered panic among employees and visitors, prompting immediate evacuation of the premises.Police, along with dog squads and other security agencies, rushed to the spot and carried out a thorough search operation for several hours. However, no suspicious object or explosive material was found.Senior superintendent of police Brijesh Kumar Srivastava said the threat appeared to be a false message circulated by a miscreant to spread panic.“The cyber cell team is investigating the anonymous email ID from which the threat was sent. The accused will be identified and strict action will be taken,” he said.
