Pune: A retired woman (63) from Kondhwa and a Yerawada-resident (42) collectively lost Rs 1.15 crore in separate online share-trading frauds between Sept last year and March.Pune cybercrime police and Yerawada police have registered separate cases on Wednesday.An officer from the Pune cybercrime police said in Nov last year, the retired woman came in contact with the crooks through a video-sharing platform. “The crooks shared videos about investments in the stock market with the woman,” the officer said.He said they contacted the woman and assured good returns on her investments in the stock market through their firm. They also told her to download a cellphone application to invest and monitor her money. “Believing them, she started transferring money to them. The woman transferred Rs 1 crore to different bank account numbers provided to her. She went on investing the amounts because the application was showing that she had earned a good profit,” he said.The officer said the woman realised that she was being duped when she was not allowed to withdraw her money, the officer said.In the Yerawada case, a 42-year-old resident of Kalyaninagar lost Rs 15.65 lakh to the cybercrooks between Sept last year and March. The crooks promised him good returns on his investments in the stock market and took money from him to different bank accounts.When the victim did not get his money back, he approached the police, an officer from the Yerawada police said.
