Jaipur: Rajasthan’s heritage hotels, many of them converted from historic forts and havelis, are increasingly embracing cultural revival to attract foreign tourists. This year, several properties in Shahpura, Mandawa, and Pachar celebrated the Gangaur festival with grandeur, positioning themselves as cultural ambassadors while asserting their role in heritage conservation.The Gangaur festival honours Goddess Gauri and marital fidelity. Traditionally marked by decorated idols, processions, and folk performances, the festival is now being increasingly branded as experiential tourism in heritage hotels.Guests are offered curated packages that combine rituals, artisan workshops, and traditional cuisine with guided tours of palaces and havelis. Rajendra Singh Pachar of the Pachar Group, which operates a chain of heritage hotels, said, “Gangaur is a living tradition. By celebrating it within our hotels, we give foreign guests an authentic cultural experience while ensuring that our historic properties remain vibrant and relevant.”Beyond tourism, the celebrations contribute to heritage conservation. Revenue generated during festival seasons supports restoration of frescoes, courtyards, and traditional architecture. Hotels also collaborate with local craftsmen, musicians, and dancers, ensuring cultural continuity and sustainable livelihoods.Surendra Singh Shahpura of Shahpura Hotels, which has been celebrating Gangaur among village communities and tourists, stressed the festival’s deeper role in sustaining heritage.Shahpura said, “Gangaur is a platform that empowers local artisans, musicians, and performers whose livelihoods depend on these traditions. By bringing villagers and international guests together, we ensure that heritage is preserved, promoted, and experienced. It strengthens communities and Rajasthan’s identity as a cultural destination.”
