Dhubri: In a moving gesture of solidarity, four social workers from Dhubri travelled nearly 643 km to flood-hit Sivasagar to distribute relief materials among families devastated by the recent deluge in Upper Assam.The team of Toufiq Ahmed, Selim Sheikh, Ashraful Alam and Simul Sarkar carried out the humanitarian mission under the banner of the Bluehill Learning Hub Foundation. The initiative was funded through contributions in cash and kind from residents of Dhubri, reflecting the district’s deep compassion for those in distress.The volunteers distributed essential supplies, including rice, pulses, potatoes, sugar, salt, biscuits, puffed and flattened rice, edible oil, soya beans, tea leaves, candles, matchboxes, mosquito repellent sticks, sanitary napkins and new clothes for men, women and children. Relief reached seven flood-affected villages in Sivasagar district.Speaking to TOI from Sivasagar, Simul Sarkar said, “Every item we carried was donated by the people of Dhubri. This initiative reflects their compassion, unity and humanitarian spirit. The mission would not have been possible without their wholehearted support.”Meanwhile, the New Bongaigaon Railway Employees’ Union also extended a helping hand, sending a truckload of relief materials comprising 25 essential items to flood victims in Sivasagar and Charaideo districts.Union president Nazrul Islam said Rs 2.8 lakh was raised through voluntary donations from railway employees to procure the supplies. “Our employees came forward wholeheartedly to contribute to this humanitarian cause. We hope this small effort brings some comfort to those facing immense hardship,” Islam said.
