The bridge has a limited clearance, preventing commercial vehicles transporting heavy machinery from passing underneath

Keri: Despite the North Goa district magistrate prohibiting heavy commercial vehicles from plying under the Sanquelim bridge junction via Dattawadi towards Chorla Ghat, such vehicles continue to use the route, causing traffic congestion. The bridge near Sanquelim junction was built nearly 75 years ago and has limited clearance, preventing commercial vehicles transporting heavy machinery from passing underneath. The Public Works Department’s Works Division VII, which handles national highways, has already restricted commercial vehicles based on a maximum height limit of 3.5 metres. However, when vehicles transporting heavy machinery enter Keri in Sattari, police personnel make no attempts to stop them or prevent them from proceeding towards the bridge.Police personnel neither inform drivers about the bridge’s limited height clearance nor direct them to the alternative route towards Honda via Morlem. Consequently, when the vehicles reach the bridge, they are unable to pass. The drivers then struggle to manoeuvre their vehicles out of the situation, resulting in traffic congestion. Heavy vehicles also frequently get stuck while negotiating the sharp turn near Sanquelim junction. The absence of warning signboards installed by the PWD further compounds the problem. Unaware of the height restriction, drivers transporting heavy machinery proceed towards Dattawadi, where their vehicles get stuck, inconveniencing other motorists and local residents.
