Ahmedabad: A dry spell on Tuesday brought a brief, sunny breather for Ahmedabad, pushing temperatures slightly above normal. But the respite is set to be short-lived. A deep depression building over the region is steadily tracking west-northwestward, bringing a fresh, heavy wet spell that is expected to sweep across parts of Ahmedabad and larger swathes of central and south Gujarat starting from Thursday.On Tuesday, the maximum temperature in the city rose to 33.2°C — 1.2 degrees above normal. Minimum temperature was 27.2°C, 1.6 degrees higher than normal. But the sunshine is only a prelude to a significant weather shift brewing off the coast.Parts of Ahmedabad district are likely to receive heavy rainfall on Friday and Saturday, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The wet spell begins building on Thursday, with very heavy showers expected at isolated places in Narmada, Tapi, and Dang. Heavy rainfall is also predicted for Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Bharuch, Surat, Navsari, and Valsad, while remaining regions may see light thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rain.By Friday, the system will gather further momentum. The IMD has issued a warning for extremely heavy rainfall in isolated parts of Chhota Udepur and Narmada. Heavy to very heavy rain is likely across Anand, Panchmahal, Dahod, Vadodara, Bharuch, Surat, Tapi, Dang, Navsari, and Valsad.Meanwhile, a broader yellow watch for heavy rain extends across central and northern districts, including Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Arvalli, Kheda, Mahisagar, Surendranagar, Rajkot, Amreli, Bhavnagar, and Botad.The widespread rain activity will persist through Saturday, with very heavy downpour continuing over Anand, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, and Bharuch. Heavy rainfall is expected in parts of Sabarkantha, Gandhinagar, Arvalli, Kheda, Ahmedabad, Panchmahal, Dahod, Mahisagar, Surat, Tapi, Dang, Navsari, Valsad, Morbi, Surendranagar, Rajkot, Amreli, Bhavnagar, and Botad.
