Vadodara: The city received heavy rain on Thursday that threw life out of gear. Civic authorities began preparations in case of flooding in the city’s low-lying areas. The district administration has announced a holiday for schools and colleges on Friday due to the heavy rain forecast.“Rain has mostly affected only the southern and western parts in the city. The situation is normal as of now. We have ordered the removal of over 1,100 hoardings that were either installed illegally or not placed safely,” said municipal commissioner Arun Mahesh Babu.Residents of colonies in low areas along the Vishwamitri river have been asked to remain alert. The water level in the river was way below the danger mark on Thursday but the river swells quickly after heavy rain. In Vadodara district, Padra, Karjan and Shinor received heavy rain on Thursday.Parts of Mahisagar and Dahod districts also got heavy rain but no major highway was closed. The Bandra Superfast Express, heading from Jaipur to Mumbai, was halted at Limkheda for hours on Thursday. All schools and colleges in Dahod, Mahisagar and Panchmahal too will stay closed on Friday due to the heavy rain forecast.
