Nagpur: The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has issued an orange alert for Nagpur, Bhandara and Gondia, predicting heavy rainfall on Tuesday, July 1. The alert signals potential disruptions in these East Vidarbha districts, which have seen relatively lighter rains this monsoon as compared to Western Vidarbha. The RMC warned of possible waterlogging, traffic delays and agricultural impacts in case heavy rains pound these districts.Western Vidarbha districts witnessed heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in the recent days following the onset of monsoon, damaging crops and swelling rivers. However, East Vidarbha, including Nagpur, has experienced mild showers so far. On Saturday, Gondia recorded 43.4mm of rainfall, Bhandara 19mm, and Yavatmal 17mm, while other districts saw no significant precipitation. The brief break from rain led to increase in temperatures and humidity, creating muggy conditions across the region. The RMC forecasts a two-day dry spell in Vidarbha starting Sunday, offering temporary relief to areas recovering from recent heavy rains. This pause will allow local authorities to address infrastructure concerns, such as clearing drainage systems to mitigate flooding risks. However, monsoon activity is expected to intensify from July 1, particularly in East Vidarbha, with Nagpur, Bhandara and Gondia likely to bear the brunt of heavy downpour.Local farmers and residents are closely monitoring weather updates, as excessive rain could damage crops and trigger flash floods in low-lying areas. Authorities have urged residents to avoid flood-prone zones and follow safety advisories.
