Jharsuguda: A man was allegedly forced to take the body of his deceased wife home on a motorcycle as a hearse van was reportedly unavailable at Mundrajore community health centre (CHC) on Sunday morning.Deceased Jamuna Chhatria (55), a resident of Udiapali village in Laikera block, was taken to Mundrajore CHC by her husband Naresh Chhatria after she fell seriously ill. Doctors at the health centre declared her dead. According to family members, they sought a vehicle to transport the body to the village, but were informed that no hearse van was available. Finding no alternative, Naresh allegedly carried his wife’s body home on a motorcycle.Jharsuguda chief district medical officer (CDMO) Dr Shakti Prasad Padhi said the woman was brought to the CHC at around 5 am and was found dead during examination.“The doctor advised that a post-mortem examination was necessary. However, family members refused and submitted a written declaration stating that they did not want a post-mortem and wished to take the body on their own,” Padhi said.He clarified that while a hearse van was not stationed at Mundrajore CHC, the district health administration had arranged for one to be sent from the district headquarters hospital (DHH), Jharsuguda.“Before the vehicle could reach the CHC, the family had already left with the body,” the CDMO said.
