Prayagraj: Around 85percent lawyers cast their votes in the polling for electing 28 office-bearers of Allahabad High Court Bar Association (HCBA) on Wednesday. According to chief returning officer of HCBA election, Radha Kant Ojha, senior advocate, the polling began at 9 am in the parking area (ground floor) of the newly constructed chamber building and continued till 5 pm. All the lawyers were present in the court’s dress having valid identity card issued by the HCBA to exercise their franchise. The chief returning officer along with other returning officers continued to supervise the polling booths to ensure smooth passing of the election. 8,337 lawyers exercised their franchise in this polling. The election committee had restricted setting up of any tent within the radius of 500 meters of high court building. There was route diversion and the entire area was declared as no parking zone.In order to conduct smooth polling, a contingent of central reserve police force (CRPF) and civil police remained posted on the gate of each booth. According to returning officers, the counting of votes will begin on July 25 in the library hall of HCBA.
