Jodhpur: The Rajasthan High Court has called upon the state govt to respond to a petition contesting a demolition notice served to the Peer Mohammad Shah Jilani Dargah, located in the Ramgarh area of Jaisalmer district. During a hearing Tuesday, the vacation bench presided over by Justice Baljinder Singh Sandhu instructed the state to file its reply by June 29.The court’s adjournment came at the request of the govt for additional time to prepare its response. Additionally, the bench permitted the petitioner to respond to the demolition notice.The petition claimed that the dargah is nearly 200 years old and has long served as a centre of religious activity for the community. It highlights that the shrine attracts numerous devotees daily and has consistently received authorisation from local authorities to conduct the annual Urs festival.Furthermore, the petitioner noted that a resolution was passed by the local Gram Panchayat in 2021, proposing the allocation of three bighas of land to the dargah, a proposal that remains under consideration by the relevant authorities.The dargah committee alleged that the demolition notice was issued this month in response to the govt’s initiative to address purported illegal constructions along the international border. The committee contended that the notice failed to adhere to the established procedures and protections mandated by the Supreme Court for the demolition of structures.
