Hassan: Goods worth Rs 54,000 crore are exported from Hassan district to international markets, and there is significant potential to further increase exports, Deputy Commissioner K.S. Latha Kumari said on Saturday.The district is home to 10,900 industrial units that provide employment to around 1.1 lakh people. Entrepreneurs are increasingly achieving economic self-reliance through their enterprises, she said.Speaking after inaugurating the Export Promotion Workshop and District FTA Outreach Programme, Latha Kumari said the modern economy offers numerous opportunities for self-employment, ranging from agro-based industries and dairy farming to small and large-scale businesses.

The programme was organised by the Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO), Karnataka Chapter, in collaboration with the Export Promotion Mission (EPM), Trade Connect e-platform, District Export Hubs, and the Niryat Bandhu Scheme under the EKI Outreach Programme for the UK, EU, Oman, Australia and the UAE.She noted that thousands of students graduate with higher education degrees every year, but only a small percentage secure govt jobs. Therefore, both men and women should focus on entrepreneurship and business development to build successful careers, she said.Highlighting the district’s export potential, she said Sakleshpur taluk is already exporting specialty coffee and spices to global markets. She added that farmers and rural women who have started small enterprises are well-positioned to achieve greater economic empowerment in the future.Kumari urged women to launch their own ventures and become financially independent rather than relying on others for their livelihood.
