Chandigarh: Haryana’s district courts had 15.5 lakh pending cases as on Jun 30, 2026, with Gurgaon accounting for the highest backlog of 3.1 lakh, according to data tabled in the state assembly on Monday.Of the total, 2.6 lakh cases were pending before district judges/additional district judges, while 12.9 lakh were before civil judges, showing the heavier burden on the subordinate judiciary.Gurgaon had 3,06,827 pending cases, followed by Faridabad with 1,95,991. Karnal had 89,598, Hisar 87,710, Ambala 65,887, Sonipat 62,105 and Panipat 60,232.The data was provided in response to a question by Congress MLA Pooja Mullana seeking district-wise pendency, judicial strength and infrastructure in district and special courts.Govt said courts had been equipped with computers, printers, scanners, LAN and video-conferencing facilities, besides display boards and public-address systems for case status and announcements.However, the infrastructure details show several court complexes still require expansion or new construction. Work on additional or new judicial complexes at Loharu and Siwani in Bhiwani is yet to begin, while expansion of Gurgaon’s twin-tower complex is under way.At Hansi, construction of an additional floor with two courtrooms is yet to start. New judicial complexes have received approval at Barwala, Punhana, Tauru, Bawal and Dabwali.Construction of a new judicial complex at Kanina is under way and is tentatively scheduled for completion in Sep 2026. An additional nine-courtroom block at the Jagadhri complex in Yamuna Nagar is also under construction, with completion tentatively set for Jul 30, 2027.The govt has also cited land-identification and temporary-arrangement issues for proposed complexes at Beri and Kalanwali.
