Akola/Amravati: Schools across the 11 districts of Vidarbha reopened on Tuesday, ushering in the 2026-27 academic session with colourful School Praveshotsav celebrations. In Akola, 1,843 schools reopened for over 3.25 lakh students. At Holy Cross Convent School, a Harry Potter-themed presentation highlighted knowledge and values as life’s greatest treasures, with HM Anjana Kujur, supervisor Luiza Dandge, Alestina, Vishakha Deshmukh, Seema Durge, Sonia Philips, Pathak and Anthony Pinto welcoming students.In Amravati, 4,83,366 students returned to 2,871 schools after reopening was delayed from June 15 due to the heatwave. Zilla Parishad CEO Satyam Gandhi inaugurated the session at ZP Higher Primary School, Brahmanwada Thadi, where new entrants were welcomed with flowers, cake-cutting and a village Praveshotsav procession in a decorated bullock cart driven by Gandhi. He also inspected school facilities and urged students to dream big. Officials said around 20% of the government uniform grant is still pending. In Gadchiroli, schools also reopened with traditional welcome ceremonies, textbook distribution and enrolment drives, as students enthusiastically reunited with classmates across the region.
