Kanpur: Devotees across Kanpur observed second Monday of the Shrawan month with great devotion and enthusiasm on Monday. The city’s prominent Shiv temples, including Anandeshwar, Siddhanath, Jageshwar and Vankhandeshwar, witnessed a heavy influx of devotees from the early hours.At Anandeshwar Temple in Parmat, devotees began arriving before midnight and formed long queues for ‘darshan’. The devotees, many of whom were seen reciting ‘Shiva Stuti’ and raising religious slogans, waited patiently for their turn. Before the ‘Mangala Aarti’, the queue stretched up to Green Park Crossing, nearly half a kilometre from the temple.Siddhanath and Jageshwar temples also witnessed a large gathering of devotees. A majority of devotees reached the temples early in the morning after taking a holy dip in the Ganga. They subsequently offered prayers and performed alabhishek’ at the Lord Shiv temples. The flow of devotees continued till late evening.Vankhandeshwar Temple on P Road too remained crowded throughout the day.Devotees also thronged prominent Shiv temples in rural areas of the district.Temple management committees had made elaborate arrangements to regulate the crowds and ensure the smooth movement of devotees. The temples were beautifully decorated with flowers for the occasion. Bhandaras were also organised by devotees at several places.
