Yamunanagar: In a development in a a multi-crore paddy procurement scam case, the Yamunanagar police have arrested a second accused in connection with an alleged fraud against the state exchequer. The latest arrested is a Haryana State Cooperative Supply and Marketing Federation (HAFED) technician Anil Kumar, who is accused of orchestrating a large-scale financial irregularity through forged gate passes at the grain market. The police said they also recovered ₹1 lakh cash from accused Anil, taken as a bribe by him.According to police officials, Anil Kumar was taken into custody on March 20, 2026, in connection with a case (167/2025) registered at Pratapnagar police station in Yamunanagar district. A spokesman for Yamunanagar police said that accused Anil was produced before the district court on Saturday, which granted his three-day police remand for further investigation. Preliminary investigations reveal that Anil generated fake gate passes to falsely show the movement of paddy stocks, causing an estimated loss of around ₹42 crore to the government.Police stated that the accused executed the fraud in a systematic and planned manner by manipulating official records through forged documentation. The misuse of gate passes enabled unauthorized diversion and misreporting of government grain stocks, thereby facilitating the embezzlement. This is the second arrest in the case so far, with one accused already in custody prior to Anil’s arrest. Investigators believe that the latest arrest will provide crucial leads in uncovering the broader network involved in the scam.Confirming the development, DSP Rajeev Miglani said, “We have arrested another accused, Anil Kumar, in the paddy scam case. Initial findings suggest that he caused a loss of approximately ₹42 crore by issuing fake gate passes at grain markets.
